TRIBUTES have been paid to a woman who always put the people of Caia Park first.

At the latest meeting of Caia Park Community Council, members paid tribute to Lorraine Daly, praising her work in the community over many years.

Chair of the council, Cllr Malcolm King said: "Lorraine was a really wonderful person, a real servant of Caia Park. She served the people of Caia Park well and is a real loss."

A longtime member of the Caia Park Partnership team, Lorraine, 50, passed away just four weeks after being diagnosed with cancer.

On the community-led organisation's Facebook page, Caia Park Partnership said: "In support of the family of Queens Park's finest Lorraine Daly.

"The best mother, daughter, sister, friend, manager, co-worker, and one of the most dedicated youth and community workers in our neighbourhood and beyond, we can be most proud of calling our own.

"An example of her big heart - one day a person we didn't know in mental health crisis came to the partnership late on Friday afternoon and no ambulance would come, so she and I took him to A&E and stayed with him until early Saturday morning until we knew he was admitted and safe and that's the short version!

"Lorraine Daly always putting people first; always!"

Lorraine was loving mother to Danny, Josh and Chantelle, nanny to Billie, as well as being aunty and special friend to many.

Elika Williams has started a GoFundMe page to provide financial support towards funeral costs for Lorraine's family.

Elika told the Leader: "I have known her since I was three or four years old, she has always been in my life. She was my mum's best friend and became my friend too."

She added: "She would light up any room and would do anything for anyone, nothing was too much of a hassle for her. She did lots for people on Caia Park, especially the children. She set up youth clubs and holiday clubs. She was just amazing at everything she did."

The GoFundMe campaign reads: "As most of you are aware Lorraine sadly passed away on May 26 after her short battle with cancer. Lorraine’s diagnosis was a little over a month ago, which I’m sure you’ll agree is no time for anyone to be able to prepare for the huge loss her family are going through.

"If you knew Lorraine, you will know that she had a heart of gold, she would help out in any possible way that she could, so we have set up this page to raise some money to help towards costs of the funeral and memorial to take some pressure from her family, especially her three children who she loved so very much."

After leaving Caia Park Partnership, Lorraine co-founded a domestic cleaning services company with her lifelong friend Janet Byrne.

On the DAB Hand Facebook page, Janet paid tribute to her best friend and business partner.

She said: "As you can imagine we are heartbroken, for anyone who has had the pleasure of meeting Lorraine will know she was one of the best, her personality would shine through wherever she went."

There will be a private funeral on June 15.
