NIGHTINGALE House Hospice has announced a new and exciting virtual 5K fundraiser taking place in June.

It will be an opportunity for local families and children to raise money for the hospice whilst also thanking those individuals who have been their heroes during the pandemic.

Pandemic restrictions will prevent a traditional family fun run this year but instead, people young and old can complete five kilometres between 18 and 20 June in their own chosen location by running, walking, skipping or cycling.

They can also dress up as their “Lockdown hero” who may be a family member who is a key worker or a friend who has helped them during the past few months.

Children could choose a profession they would like to be in when they are older, or they may even choose to dress up as an individual they saw on TV who inspired them.

With many fundraising events last year being cancelled, virtual events have been crucial in helping the hospice generate much-needed funds to provide services for patients and their families.

It will cost over £ 3.4 million to run the hospice in 2021, so every donation and sponsorship has a huge impact.

To take part, families must register online via the website or they can call the fundraising team on 01978 314292.

Family tickets are £15 (minimum of £25 sponsorship), child registration is £5 (minimum of £15 sponsorship) and adult registration is £5 (minimum of £15 sponsorship)

Dale Hughes, marketing manager at HOYA Lens UK said: “Hoya Lens UK is pleased to sponsor this new event.

"It is the first time it has taken place and we feel it is important to help and support others – especially our heroes of the past 12 months.”

Nightingale House Hospice community and events fundraiser Samantha Amis added: "This last year has been so difficult for everyone and as we begin to finally see more normality in the next few weeks, I hope this fundraiser can spread some positivity and give thanks to all the heroes of the last 12 months.

"It has already been so heart-warming to hear from children who will be taking part who their lockdown hero is, and why.

"We would like to thank all the participants who have signed up so far.”
