A COMMUNITY run leisure centre has unveiled its new gym facilities.

Plas Madoc Leisure Centre Acrefair has undergone a refurbishment of its large gym facility.

It was officially opened by Assembly Member Ken Skates yesterday, almost five years after the centre was forced to close.

The centre which is operated by Splash Community Trust was reopened in December 2014 thanks to the actions of local people after the council closed the site in cost saving measures.

During this time the charitable trust has secured major upgrades to the site to secure it’s long term viability, such as new boilers and a new roof as well as major upgrades to the cafe and sports hall.

The gym was repainted and a new floor was laid in preparation for the all new cardiovascular equipment to arrive. The state-of-the-art kit has been provided by Life Fitness and will provide users with the very best experience in fitness.

Gym-goers will have the chance to use large 21 inch touch screen monitors, providing access to Netflix and other online streaming services.

Denise Chadwick, Plas Madoc Leisure Centre general manager said: “This major investment by the Splash Community Trust is a real statement as to our commitment to the long term future of Plas Madoc Leisure Centre. The new kit will provide a real bonus to our current membership and hopefully attract new members to the facility.”

The gym, which had been closed for more than a week to enable the refurbishment to take place, is open to the public again today.
