A DRAMA festival is set to return after a 20 year absence.

The Clwyd Community Theatre Association (CCTA) Festival of One Act Plays will welcome performers from Wrexham and Flintshire to Theatr Clwyd on March 9-10.

Festival secretary Richard Jones said, “This was a huge event in the community theatre calendar. Groups from Colwyn Bay to Wrexham would enter the festival and such was the demand, each group would be restricted to one entry with the festival running from Thursday to Saturday with a matinee on the Saturday to accommodate all of the entries.

"The winner of the festival would then have the opportunity to take part in the All Wales Final run by the Drama Association of Wales.

"The overall winner would then go on to represent the country at the British One-Act Play Final held annually in one of the four home countries."

This year's performers are from New Brighton-based Car Boot Theatre Company, Darland Community Theatre from Rossett and Grove Park Theatre in Wrexham, as well as Mold Centre Stage and Phoenix Theatre Company.

Mr Jones added "We would very much appreciate support from the local community and in particular those groups who are not taking part this time with a view to participating in next year’s festival and become part of a larger group of like-minded people and enjoy the thrill of performing in such a magnificent venue.

"With a well supported festival, we are confident that this can once again become an annual event.

"Next year - hopefully - there are plans to include youth and school groups. On the Saturday evening after the three plays have been adjudicated, we will break for a short time then all reconvene in the Clwyd Room for the awards ceremony and the winning play to be announced.

"We will end the evening with live music provided by the very popular local group Shambollix, and of course a late bar.”

Tickets for the festival, which will be held at the venue's, Emlyn Williams Theatre, are £10 and £8 (concessions) from the Theatr Clwyd box office (01352 701521/boxoffice@theatrclwyd.com).
