MS for Wrexham

Eligible unpaid carers in Wrexham can now apply for the Welsh Government-funded £500 support payment.

Unpaid carers provide invaluable support to people. They play a crucial role in society and this was particularly evident during the pandemic.

In recognition of their huge efforts and personal sacrifices, and to help with some of the costs they have incurred, the Welsh Government announced a one-off £500 payment will be made to more than 57,000 unpaid carers in Wales who are in receipt of Carers Allowance.

The Welsh Government is investing £29m to fund the scheme, with almost 2,500 unpaid carers in Wrexham expected to benefit.

The registration process is now open via Wrexham Council’s website but if any constituent has any queries, please get in touch.

Lack of money should not be a barrier to any young person who wants to play music.

New plans announced by the Welsh Government aim to ensure every child in Wrexham has the opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument.

To ensure access to music education is fairer and more consistent across Wales, funding is being trebled, with £13.5m being invested over the next three years.

The development of the National Music Service will ensure that we nurture our next generation and continue to produce new talent.

It was wonderful to finally visit Calon FM at its new home in the Wrexham Enterprise Hub.

As a long-time supporter of the community radio station, I know it has been a challenging few years. Allan, Arran and the team, which is largely made up of volunteers, have done an amazing job re-establishing the station and I am pleased they were able to secure significant Welsh Government investment to help construct their new state-of-the-art studios. Calon FM is a fantastic asset for the local community and I am sure the station will continue to be a proud and passionate voice for our town.

After Wrexham was granted city status last week, we’re set to discover whether we will also be crowned City of Culture 2025, with a result expected in the coming days. Whatever the outcome, the #Wrecsam2025 team has done an incredible job and it has been so uplifting to see so many people come together to support the bid and the town.
