Reading for Pleasure - Book Boxes
Wrexham Library is trialling a project aimed at boosting school children's reading for pleasure. A growing number of studies show that promoting reading can have a major positive impact on children and adults and their future. The library would like to offer 'Reading for Pleasure Book Boxes' for Year 5 and 6 pupils to any school in Wrexham to enhance your reading for pleasure book collection. The boxes will include a range of 36 books suitable for Year 5 and 6 children of varying abilities; a 'recommend a book to a buddy card' - for the children to complete once they have read a book, and free bookmarks for each child in their first box plus some additional literature/freebies. If you are a teacher or parent who would like to register for this scheme, contact Heidi at Wrexham Library. Contact details: library@wrexham.gov.uk 01978 292090.
Did you know?
You will no longer be fined if your library items are late back, however if you've not returned them after 90 days then you will be billed a replacement cost of the item. We would really appreciate their return, so don't worry about returning them late - bring them back and think of the new books you can take out instead.
Book review
Mountains of the Mind by Robert Macfarlane.
This was the first book I have read by Robert Macfarlane. He writes beautifully and researches thoroughly. He has created a book that will resonate deeply with anyone who climbs mountains for any reason, it will also provide fascinating insights for anyone else who wonders why anyone would do something so dangerous. If you have any kind of affinity with mountains, if you're a hillwalker, an armchair mountaineer, or just someone who loves good writing, you ought to read this. One of the most beautiful things I've ever read and it left me wanting to explore the outdoors. Karen
