A NEWLY-refurbished pub in Wrexham city centre opened its doors yesterday (September 30).
The Horse and Jockey, located on Hope Street in the city centre closed in February this year.
Stars Pubs and Bars, who own the site confirmed that the pub reopened yesterday under new operators following an extensive refurb.
Jeff and Joy D'Souza, who also run the Four Dogs and Bersham Club in Wrexham, have taken on the city centre pub and have been working "flat out" to get it revamped and open to the public.
The Grade II listed building dates back to the 17th century, and as well as being a pub, has also been cottages and a cobbler’s shop.
It was earlier known as The Colliers, and was re-named in honour of Fred Archer, widely regarded as one of the greatest jockeys of all time, who rode at nearby Bangor-on-Dee.
The pub is open daily from 10am, with further "exciting changes" set to come in the coming weeks.
Paul Alldis, Star Pubs’ area manager for Wrexham said: “We’re delighted to confirm that The Horse & Jockey reopened yesterday.
"Jeff and Joy D’Souza – who run The Four Dogs and The Bersham Club in Wrexham – are the new operators.
"They have completely redecorated The Horse and Jockey in keeping with its traditional feel, retaining its character and charm. The works have encompassed painting the interior, reupholstering the furniture, new flooring and a kitchen refit.
"The pub has a new selection of drinks on its revamped bar including premium lagers, cask ale and a great choice of spirits and wines.”

"There’s been lots of interest and excitement about the reopening whilst we’ve been getting it ready, with passers by popping their heads in to get a peek at what’s going on.
