The PARADE at Chester Racecourse is sharing the best things to eat and drink this month as we head towards Autumn.

As we approach the colder months, the racecourse's head chef, Dave Stitson, has provided a guide to what seasonal food and drink is best enjoyed at this time of year.

Late summer vegetables that are on offer in September include tomatoes, courgettes, celeriac, and runner beans.

The last of the summer's salad leaves, like rocket, are also available.

Mr Stitson suggests using these fresh ingredients in salads, soups, and roasted vegetable dishes.

September, too, is an opportunity to enjoy hearty meats.

This month, duck, venison, game and pork are all at their prime and perfect for those wanting rich, robust flavours.

Mr Stitson favours venison for its lean qualities and versatility, combining well with root vegetables and blackberries.

Duck is also on show at this time of the year.

Its flavourful meat is well suited to a variety of autumnal dishes, from roasts to stews.

Meanwhile, although available all year round, Mr Stitson says that beef is a tasty alternative, especially as barbecues give way to Sunday roasts in the season's transition.

Fresh fruits are not to be overlooked either.

Apples, pears, blackberries, grapes and figs all feature in Mr Stitson's guide and add sweetness to dishes in September's seasonal foods.

In terms of drinks, Mr Stitson encourages people to enjoy warm, comforting drinks in their routines.

Options such as pumpkin spice lattes and hot apple cider are good choices to enjoy in the cold weather.

Easing into the autumn season also includes enjoying late summer cocktails, including margaritas and mojitos, made with the last of this season's fresh limes and mint.

Chester Racecourse invites people to celebrate the season at the Autumn Racing, Food & Drink Weekend on September 13 and 14.

Attendees will be able to enjoy a seasonal menu that changes every race day.
