House prices increased by 1.2% in Flintshire in May, new figures show.
The rise contributes to the longer-term trend, which has seen property prices in the area grow by 2.7% over the last year.
The average Flintshire house price in May was £217,344. Land Registry figures show a 1.2% increase on April.
Over the month, the picture was different to that across Wales, where prices increased 2.5%.
Over the last year, the average sale price of property in Flintshire rose by £5,800 – putting the area 10th among Wales’s 22 local authorities with price data for annual growth.
First-time buyers in Flintshire spent an average of £183,600 on their property – £5,100 more than a year ago, and £41,800 more than in May 2019.
By comparison, former owner-occupiers paid £242,800 on average in May – 32.2% more than first-time buyers.
Property types
Owners of detached houses saw the biggest rise in property prices in Flintshire in May – they increased 1.4%, to £301,317 on average. Over the last year, prices rose by 2.4%.
Among other types of property:
- Semi-detached: up 1.1% monthly; up 3.2% annually; £189,674 average
- Terraced: up 0.9% monthly; up 2.7% annually; £153,818 average
- Flats: up 0.9% monthly; up 1.1% annually; £106,409 average
How do property prices in Flintshire compare?
Buyers paid 0.6% more than the average price in Wales (£216,000) in May for a property in Flintshire. Across Wales, property prices are low compared to those across the UK, where the average cost is £285,000.

The most expensive properties in Wales were in Monmouthshire – £332,000 on average, and 1.5 times the price as in Flintshire. Monmouthshire properties cost 2.6 times the price as homes in Merthyr Tydfil (£129,000 average), at the other end of the scale.
