MOLD Town Centre’s popularity continues to boom as new businesses continue to be attracted to the bustling market town.

The street market, which is held every Wednesday and Saturday, remains as popular as ever and continues to be well supported not just with residents but with from visitors further afield, as does the town’s indoor market, which is located at the Daniel Owen Precinct and is open Monday to Saturday.

Mold’s markets, both outdoor and indoor, are home to some long-established businesses, some spanning over 50-years but the markets have also recently welcomed new traders and Mold’s Town Mayor and Deputy went along to welcome them.

Mayor of Mold Cllr. Brian Lloyd and Deputy Mayor Cllr. Paul Beacher were joined by Flintshire County Council's Market Promotion and Engagement Officer Jon Thomas, a new position created by the Shared Prosperity Fund on a visit to the Markets.

Cllr. Brian Lloyd, Mayor of Mold said: “I have lived and worked in Mold all my life and I am very proud of our town and how it continues to grow and attract new businesses.

"The markets have been a constant staple in the retail offering of the town and once again, its lovely to see new businesses starting their journeys!

Mold is certainly leading the way when it comes to small towns with such a vibrant retail and business community in the town, there really is something for everyone when they come along to visit.

"Myself and my Deputy Paul enjoyed our afternoon chatting to the traders, finding out more about what brought them to Mold in particular, as they all said, why would you want to go anywhere else.”

Jon Bridson from Bridge Park Candles is a new trader on the outdoor market and sells handmade candles which his wife Carol makes from rape seed and coconut wax, making them extremely clean burning and vegan friendly.

Jon said: “Carol has been making candles for eight years now and has a shop in Denbigh, when I retired from my previous role, we saw it as a great opportunity to take on a market stall in Mold and increase sales”.

Tanya Mills, runs her fashion accessories stall Bouticut, making many items herself. “I originally started here just on a Saturday, building my business up around other work commitments", she said.

"I now attend both market days here as well as other markets on different days”.

Mike Jones, from Celtic Works, based in Ruthin, sells handmade gifts, souvenirs and jewellery. He said: “I’m now up to four markets a week, attending Mold every Wednesday and Saturday and also Holywell and Wrexham markets.

"I’m moving away from another business to concentrate on the stall and making the products in my studio.

Mold’s Indoor Market has also seen new traders join the existing businesses there. Spud Sensation, a new venture for owner Tracey Shore, has been open for a number of weeks now and gaining in popularity.

Tracey added: “I was unhappy in my last job and had been looking into the idea of a catering van initially. I came into the indoor market shopping, noticed this unit had become available, spoke to Peter the market inspector and the rest is history.

"You can sit around for ages and talk about doing things but, we decided to take to plunge and haven’t looked back”.

Sandwich Box, run by Sam Williams is the newest addition to the indoor market. Offering freshly made sandwiches with ingredients from local shops like Hulsons. Sam has even made space for a few tables and chairs offering customers the chance to eat at their leisure.

Both the food outlets offer exceptional value for money and have a loyalty card scheme which is proving very popular.

Also starting around the same time was Kelly Nickson, with Minifigure Mania who said: “I’ve been trading online for approximately 12 months and selling via Manic-RC, who are already based in the Indoor Market.

"I thought the time was right to give it a go and take on a unit of my own”.

Completing the new traders at the Indoor Market is local man Richard Samuels-Mckay who recently opened Direct Outdoors selling camping and outdoor equipment and clothing.

Rich said “You can keep up to date with what’s happening at Mold markets and look out for activities / events throughout the year, such as the free children’s activities (at both Mold & Holywell markets), over the Summer holidays in conjunction with Outside Lives."
