A CANAL boat hire company near Whitchurch has published guides for days out boating on the Llangollen Canal.

Anglo Welsh published the guides which will provide details of the locks, tunnels, aqueducts and bridges day boat hirers will meet along the way, as well as pubs and places to visit.

The company offers day boat hire from Whixall Marina.

It said: "On a day afloat from Whixall on the Prees Branch of the Llangollen Canal, boaters can reach the historic market town of Whitchurch.  

"The lock-free journey, which takes around two-and-a-half hours, passes the Hadley Farm Café along the way."

It added: "From Whixall, it takes around three hours to reach the historic market town of Ellesmere, in the heart of the Shropshire Lake District. "The lock-free route passes Cole Mere and takes you through Ellesmere Tunnel."
