FLINT COASTGUARD helped rescue a person stuck up to their waist in mud.
The incident occurred in a mud gully at the south end of the West Kirby marine lake on the Wirral on May 29.
Flint Coastguard was one of a number of rescue teams to be called to assist in the operation.
The Wirral Coastguard's Hovercraft crew was first on scene and managed to extract the casualty and get her safely onboard assisted by the coastguard rescue teams.
The woman was then flown to the West Kirby Sailing Club slipway and handed over to crews from North West Ambulance Service.
The coastguard has issued the following advice to people about the dangers of mud:
- Avoid mud if at all possible.
- If you do find yourself in soft mud-Stop, retrace your footprints back to firm ground.
- If you do get stuck, spread your weight, sit down, shout and wave for help. Use your mobile phone to raise the alarm if you can.
- Discourage anyone else from trying to rescue you as they may become entrapped themselves.
- If you get into difficulties or see someone else in difficulty on the coast, dial and ask for the coastguard immediately.
