TRIBUTES have been paid to a 'lovely' man who 'epitomised dedication' by regularly travelling from Luxembourg to watch his beloved Wrexham AFC in action.

James Roberts was 47 years old and reportedly died following a short illness.

He was very well-known among the Wrexham AFC community due to the fact that he would travel over from Luxembourg to watch the Reds play - in trips of over 1,000 miles and 20-plus hours all round.

Following the news of his death, Reds fans have been taking to social media to pay tribute and share their memories of Mr Roberts, who was known as 'Jammy'.

The Fearless in Devotion team led the tributes, saying: "Rest in power James. Heartbroken. He epitomised dedication doing regular journeys from his home in Luxembourg to his hometown to take in #WxmAFC games.

"A lovely, lovely man who adored the Reds. All our thoughts from the FiD team are with his friends and family."

Fellow Wrexham AFC fan and close friend Craig Jones said: "Absolutely terrible news which I heard earlier as he was a school friend of mine. Made regular flights from Luxembourg at all sorts of times to watch the Reds.

"Just 47 and puts a lot of the things I moan about in life in perspective. RIP Jammy."

Wrexham AFC honorary vice president Spencer Harris also paid tribute to Mr Roberts. He said: "I cannot believe this. What terrible, terrible news to hear about a wonderful member of the Wrexham family. All thoughts with his loved ones."

Mr Roberts, who was a Wrexham fan since the 1980's, was known as the '#LuxRed' and had built up a following on Twitter with his regular journey updates between Luxembourg and Wrexham.

He initially moved to Luxembourg to work as a teacher at an international school in Luxembourg City in April 2017.

But his commitment to return to Wrexham knew no bounds. Speaking to the 'Final Whistle' podcast back in 2017, he said: "Wherever I am in the world, I know I'll be coming back for the games."

Mr Roberts was married to wife Lucy and the couple had two children together, three-year-old Eric and 11-month-old Archer.

Fearless In Devotion say they've spoken to the family and friends and they have agreed that a fitting tribute to Mr Roberts would be a two-minute applause on 47mins at the next home match against Southend United on Saturday, March 11.
