OTHER football documentaries have been made but Phil Parkinson believes Welcome to Wrexham is "unique" and will raise both the club and area's profile to "another level".

The hugely-anticipated documentary covers the rollercoaster journey since Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney became co-owners at Wrexham AFC 18 months ago.

The first episode premiered in America yesterday and will be available in the UK today, with the documentary being streamed on Disney+.

Club staff, players, and coaches were last week treated to a special screening of the documentary ahead of the worldwide launch and Parkinson believes it will be a hit.

"We have watched the first three episodes," said Parkinson.

"I'm not sure I'm allowed to say what it's all about but we have seen it and I am sure it is going to be positive for the club and for the area.

"As you would expect, it is very professionally put together and everyone at the club and the owners are hoping it is going to be a success.

"Quite a lot of documentaries have been made at the moment but this one has got a unique feel to it because of Rob and Ryan's involvement, and the history of the club.

"Everybody is hoping that people enjoy watching it."

Wrexham have earned worldwide publicity since the A-listers took control of the club in February 2021 and Parkinson says the club and the area's profile will be raised even higher as a result of the documentary.

There will be a total of 16 episodes of Welcome to Wrexham, lasting 30 minutes each, with two episodes to be released every Thursday.

"They are the professionals in terms of TV and documentaries, I am just concentrating on the football," added Parkinson.

"But let's hope that it really raises the profile of the club and the area. That is the intention.

"There has been a huge uplift in the area over the last 12 months, not just the club, and hopefully this takes it onto another level."
