Ysgol Maes Garmon says they are proud of their students this year, who have had to battle lockdowns to get to their A-Levels.

Their two-year period in the Sixth Form was far from being a smooth journey of development, but they continued to work hard, guided by the supportive teaching staff.

All the hard work resulted in 30.8% of all grades awarded A*/A.

LIVE: A-level results in North Wales

A-Level studies are a very personal journey. Whilst the school is immensely proud of the students who garner A* and A grades, they are equally as proud of the students who have worked hard in order to gain the grades that they need for the next steps of their life journeys-be that further education, apprenticeships or employment.

The school is extremely pleased that their Year 12 students have also received great AS results, placing them with a solid foundation for their A-Level studies.

All students have been wonderfully supported by staff and Head of Sixth Form, Mr Aled Owen. They have had been wholly committed throughout the past two years to ensure disruption to the students' learning journey was kept to a minimum.

Among the students to receive results today was Henry Hodges, who achieved 2 A* and 3A grades. Henry will be joining Imperial College, London to continue his studies.

Nanw Hampson, who had already been offered an unconditional place at the University of Aberystwyth to study Welsh, achieved  4A*grades!

Alice Newbould, who joined the school as a Welsh Learner on their Immersion Course, achieved 2A*1A 1B. This is a remarkable achievement knowing that Alice completed all her exams through the medium of Welsh having joined the school with little understanding of the language. Alice will be studying Music at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London.

Headteacher, Mrs Bronwen Hughes' said: “These grades reflect our students’ hard work and dedication over 2 of the most challenging years education has faced.

“These students achieved excellent GCSE grades as the pandemic started and they have maintained their focus and dedication to their studies through periods of online learning and tight restrictions. I am so proud of the resilience and determination they have shown during their school career.

“I am very grateful to their parents and our staff for their support and dedication as they guided our students to success.

“It really is it is wonderful to see our students achieve so well. Around 50% of this cohort have accepted places to study at Universities in England whilst many have accepted offer from Universities in Wales, having sat entrance exams for Bangor and Aberystwyth and received scholarships or bursaries following excellent results.”
