THERE are plans to create a dwelling for farmworkers at a Wrexham-based farm.

Wrexham Council has received an application for the proposal at Derosa Farm in Erbistock to provide a home for a farmworker at the site.

According to a design and access statement submitted on behalf of the applicants by Blueprint Architectural Services, the premises would enable the farmworker to be close to the site and to be called upon when needed, for example during the calfing season.

The main farm is located a few moments’ walk from the site. Converting a current building on site has been deemed unviable due to the use of current building and the financial implications it would have.

The statement says: “The principal of providing a new dwelling on this parcel of land is aiming to provide a home on site for a farmworker associated with the existing farming business.

“The suggested location of the proposed farmworkers dwelling will give separation from the operational side of the business.

“To ensure the existing business can prosper and excel in the future it is essential for a farmworker to be in close proximity to the operational element of the business. This will ensure the welfare of the animals on the farm is prioritised.

“The proposal will consist of a detached residential dwelling with ample size rear amenity space serving the property.

“Exploring the options for our client it has become evident there is a functional need and requirement for a full time farm worker for the established business.

“The introduction of the farmworkers dwelling will safeguard the financial sustainability of of the farm and the welfare of the animals on site.

“The addition of the dwelling facilitates the handover of management of the farm business to a younger farmer. The proposed dwelling has been designed to ensure its scale and appearance has been considered in relation to its surroundings and location."

Wrexham Council’s planning committee will make a decision on the plans at a future date.
