Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney joined Wrexham's past and present players for a golf day in memory of a former Red.

The event, in honour of Kieron Durkan, took place at Carden Park this morning with a host of former Wrexham players in attendance.

A couple of the current playing group were also present, as was co-chairman Rob, who was in attendance at the club's 2-0 defeat at Chesterfield last night.

The former and current Wrexham stars played alongside friends of Kieron to raise money for Sporting Wellness, a charity providing free mental healthcare to UK athletes.

The fundraiser was organised by former Wrexham players Neil Roberts and Stephen Thomas, who wanted to reunite past players whilst at the same time remembering Kieron and raising awareness of mental health.

When speaking about organising the golf day, Neil said: “A few of us former players are in a WhatsApp group called Wrexham Legends, and I really wanted to get everyone reconnecting face to face.

"We had a great response and thought it would be a good idea to put on a charity event to commemorate Kieron with colleagues and friends.

“While it feels like more people are talking about mental health, there’s still a stigma attached stopping people coming forward. That’s why we’ve chosen to donate all proceeds to mental health charity, Sporting Wellness."

As well as the golf day, there was plenty going on to raise funds, including a charity auction with prizes including signed football shirts from Wrexham AFC, Manchester United, Everton, and one of Sadio Mane’s most recently signed shirts.

There’s were also gift vouchers to spend at local businesses such as Carden Park, Secret Spa and The Fat Boar.

Wrexham's Elliot Lee was in attendance at the Kieron Durkan Memorial Golf Day and said: "It's great to be here with a few of the lads, the fans and former players. To do it for a cause like this makes it even better.

“Mark Howard talks a good game, he’s got a putting machine at home and he’s played this course before! Anthony Forde has all the gear, so it could be one of those two for the win. Me and Jordan Davies might be fighting it out for last place.”
