The Royal Mail Customer Service Point in Mold has announced new opening hours which may prove difficult for working professionals.

The Customer Service point at 18 Earl Road, allows residents to print pre-paid labels, post items, as well as collect items that have been attempted to deliver.

The new opening hours indicate the centre will be open 8am-10am Monday, 8am-2pm Tuesday-Friday and 8am-12pm on Saturdays.

The new opening times will come into force on Monday (August 8).

The hours have reduced dramatically, with a loss of the prior 4pm-6pm which was in place from Mondays to Fridays.

In a facebook post on the public Buckley Residents Group, residents voiced their concerns over the reduction of hours.

One commenter said the new times were "...pretty difficult for those who are working."

Royal Mail has indicated that a reason for the change in hours is in relation to the reduced volume of parcels that are returned for collection.

According to the Royal Mail, the number of customers visiting Customer Service Points to collect undelivered items has halved since 2020.

However, some facebook commenters felt this decrease in footfall could have been related to the pandemic and therefore may not be an accurate reflection.

A commenter said: "You have had reduced hours since covid. You cannot collect footfall data when closed. [...] How idiotic."

In response to the concerns a Royal Mail spokesperson said:  “We understand the importance that some customers attach to Customer Service Points (CSPs) as one of a number of ways in which they can access our services.

"An increase in doorstep services such as Parcel Collect and Safeplace are helping us to enhance customer convenience and deliver more parcels first time.

"So to keep pace with the changing behaviour of our customers, we are amending the opening hours of CSPs at some locations, including reducing opening hours at the quiet times of the day in some cases.

"We have a range of options free-of-charge for customers who want to arrange for an item to be redelivered which have become increasingly popular.

"Details of how to arrange this can be found on our website at: Redelivery - Arrange Online | Royal Mail Group Ltd.”
