The A55 in Flintshire has been closed due to a vehicle fire. 

The fire on the Westbound carriageway has sparked traffic delays, Traffic Wales has confirmed. 

The road has been closed between J36 Broughton and J35 Dobs Hill and congestion is building.

Traffic Wales state that officers and emergency services are en route to the scene and have advised motorists to expect delays if travelling in the area. 

A patient has been transported from the scene to Whiston Hospital.

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called shortly after 08:35 to an incident on the A55 near Junction 35A.

"It is currently an ongoing incident that has required a multi-agency response. We have deployed two rapid response vehicles, an emergency ambulance, a helimed (Air Ambulance) and the Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service are en route. A duty operations manager is also at the scene.

"One patient has been transported by road to Whiston Hospital for further treatment.”

A North Wales Police spokesperson said: "We were called to a report of an incident on the A55 westbound, prior to Junction 35 in Broughton shortly after 8.30am this morning.

"The road is currently closed in both directions due to a vehicle fire.

"Please avoid the area for the time being and take alternative routes where possible.

A North Wales Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 08:34 this morning to a road traffic collision and a car fire on the A55 Westbound between Broughton and Dobshill.

"Crews are still in attendance."
