A SENIOR police officer has slammed a "selfish" drink driver who caused the death of a teenager.

Marcus Pasley, of Llantysilio, appeared at Mold Crown Court for sentencing on Friday afternoon after admitting causing the death of Abby Hill, 19, last July at Berwyn, Llangollen, while driving a Renault car.

He was jailed for two years and four months.

Senior Investigating Officer, Sergeant Meurig Jones of the Roads Policing Unit, said: “Marcus Pasley was found to be over the legal alcohol limit when he crashed his Renault Clio which killed his passenger - 19-year-old Abby Hill, and he will need to learn to live with the consequences of his selfish and deadly actions for the rest of his life.

“This was a completely avoidable collision caused by Pasley’s poor driving and his decision to drive whilst under the influence. The investigation found that a taxi was available had he waited 10 minutes. This what makes this collision so tragic."

He added: “Getting behind the wheel after drinking alcohol destroys the lives of so many people. That is why we are committed to making the roads safer and have a robust strategy around enforcing the ‘Fatal 5’ offences which includes drink driving.

“My thoughts and sympathies go out to Abby’s family, who have suffered unimaginable devastation.”
