Cefn Mawr in the spotlight for nostalgic photography show

In the early 80s, Malcolm Glover, originally from Brixton in South London, found himself in Cefn Mawr.

He moved to the area "for love", after meeting a fellow student, from North Wales, while studying photography in Swansea.

During his seven years in the Wrexham village, the documentary photographer captured a record of life there, depicting portraits, sporting activities, people at play and work, and general street life.

Now living in St Leonards-on-Sea, in Hastings, the 67-year-old is returning to the area for an exhibition of his Cefn Mawr photos.

Malcolm said: "I was in my 20s, and I loved my time in the village, and I still go there quite a lot.

"This has brought back such beautiful memories. That's the power of photography, it's very good at documenting time.

"There's an organic need for nostalgia, it generates a moment in time and the images bring back the memories for people."

Malcolm's time in the also saw him get to know Wrexham legend and former Leader photographer Les Evans.

He added: "He was such a really nice man. We got on really well, and I liked him very much.

"Part of being a photographer is you've got to be able to relate to people, and Les was really good at that."

Visitors can meet Malcolm at the opening of the exhibition on Tuesday, August 9, at Ebenezer Chapel in Cefn Mawr, from 6pm-10pm. It will then run from 6pm-9pm until August 14.

There will also be a display of Malcolm's work at Oriel Colwyn Photography Gallery, as part of a book launch of photos of the Llyn Peninsula, on August 6.
