MORE readers have been getting in touch to give us their thoughts on the 20mph speed limit change set for Wales' residential roads as a petition in opposition reaches nearly 35,000 signatures.

On Tuesday, July 12, Senedd members voted 39 to 15 to approve the Welsh Government's bid to roll out the law on all residential roads as of next year.

But, the plans have faced great opposition, particularly after it was first piloted in the Buckley area earlier this year.

And now, a petition in opposition to the change which was first set up in March, is gathering pace once more following the vote, collecting over 31,400 signatures (correct at time of writing on July 18).

Last week, Leader readers sent in their views with most against the changes taking place.

Since then, more of you have been getting in touch with us. Here's what you had to say ...

Lynn Kennedy said: "No, not on main arterial roads. By schools, play areas etc then yes but not a whole blanket ban."

Paul Delaney added: "Nope. Outside schools and in built up areas then yeah people should naturally be slowing down to around that speed anyway but some of the stretches of road around Buckley where it's 20 are just daft and out of proportion, some roads even 30 feels way to slow round there."

Janice Jones said: "How about pedestrians taking a bit more care and look where they are going? I see loads of people on their phones crossing the road some are pushing buggies too."

Simon Griffiths said: "Most journeys will only be on residential roads for the last half mile. It will add 30 seconds to your journey. If that saves a couple of lives a year, then that's a good trade-off."

The Leader:

PIC: The 20mph speed limit change row is rumbling on.

Tracy Buckley told us: "If you can't keep your speed down in these areas near schools playgrounds and residential areas then you are the problem they are trying to solve. Sorry but it's true."

Michael Solomon said: "I welcome this if it saves lives and makes us safer. I seem to recall a huge backlash about being told we had to wear seatbelts and now it's the norm."

Gerwyn Napper added: "As a driving instructor, I can tell you there will definitely be more injuries and accidents with this change. The amount of idiots tailgating or overtaking is truly astounding and this will lead to more accidents."

Marg Morris said: "Many roads around Mold should be 20mph. The road from the rounadbout into Mold is lethal if you're walking, it's like a race track."

Tim Dukes added: "Less pollution, lower fatalities and incidents, smoother driving, increased traffic flow leading to higher capacity and more encouragement for sustainable transport. It's all good!"

Roberts Edwards told us: "How about spending the money educating children in road safety? In my day we had the green cross code man."
