THIS summer sees the launch of a new hockey academy, aimed at encouraging young players to the sport.

Northop Hall Hockey Club is keen to encourage players aged eight to 16 years to play hockey, regardless of whether they have played before.

In co-ordination with Aura’s Schools Hockey Initiative, the Academy will support Flintshire schools by offering coaching at all levels, whether or not you are a member of Northop Hall Hockey Club.

They will supply all the equipment and provide professionally qualified coaches able to take young players from absolute beginner to representing Wales at Under 18.

Their four-stage player pathway ensures players continue to improve, learning something new at every Academy event. The club also offers the opportunity for young players to play in hockey leagues and tournaments at every level from Under 10s up to adult leagues.

The inaugural Academy event is a two-day coaching session taking place at the Alun School, Mold, on August 11 to 12.

Places are limited and you must register to attend. All Flintshire learners will receive discounts off fees and there are additional discounts for FSM learners and siblings. You should take some shin-pads and a mouthguard but all other equipment is provided.
