A SUPER-FIT pensioner from Wrexham recently became a world champion once again in his age category.

Peter Norman, 84, is well-known for being as fit as a fiddle and is even a three-time triathlon world champion previously.

His latest success came at the 2022 World Triathlon Duathlon Multisport Championships.

It was there, at the competition held in Targu Mures in Romania, that he became a Triathlon Duathlon world champion in the 85-89 age group.

Peter completed a run, cycle and another run in a time of two hours, eight minutes and 15 seconds.

His record is all the more remarkable when you consider the fact that he didn’t take up running until he was 50 years of age.

He has previously competed all over the world too - 30 years ago, he finished his first race at Club La Santa, the Lanzarote International Running Challenge, competing for four consecutive days.

This week, following his latest success, the Wrexham Town Matters Facebook group has been paying tribute to one of Wrexham's finest athletes.

On a post paying tribute and put up by Chris De Burger, one resident said: "Amazing Pete haven’t seen you for a long time glad you're running strong as ever!

Another added: "Huge congratulations, that’s some performance that."

A third hailed Peter's achievement saying: "Pete this is a phenomenal achievement but I'm sure anyone who knows you won't be surprised

A fourth said: "Yes Pete! Glad to see he’s still going strong."
