A WREXHAM fan has told of how he had to sit outside a train station all night after being left stranded following Wrexham AFC's recent trip to Wembley.

The Reds fell to a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Bromley in the FA Trophy final held at the London-based stadium on Sunday, May 22.

And it was a frustrating day in more ways than one for 66-year-old Colin Edwards.

Having supported Wrexham since he was just eight years old, Colin has certainly seen some great highs and some serious lows over the years.

But it is not necessarily the scoreline that will stick with him from the club's latest Wembley visit.

It is instead that the bus he was supposed to be travelling back to Wrexham on had left for home without him.

Colin says that, had it not been for the generosity of some other Reds fans in London on the day, he may never have made it home.

He said: "I returned to the coach park and the bus had gone leaving me stranded in London with twenty pounds left in my pocket. I don't ever take any of my bank cards with me on away days, only cash and I had only pulled about fifty pounds out for the day as I don't drink.

"I bumped into a group of other Wrexham fans who though they might have some extra space on their bus for me to travel back on. When they realised their wasn't a space, they very kindly did a collection on the bus and gave me £115 so that I could try and get home."

That, as it turned out, would be just the beginning of - as he puts it - an 'unforgettable experience' for Colin.

He managed to get himself on the train but only made it as far as Marylebone Station (connected to London Underground) before he realised that he was not able to make it all the way home that Sunday night.

Colin said: "I was told that the next train to get home - which wasn't too expensive - wasn't until the morning, so I had to sit outside Marylebone station all night until I got a train on Monday.

"I am 66 years of age and have followed Wrexham since the age of eight, and this has got to be the worst experience ever, but apparently i was not the only one there were others, left stranded too.

"I can't thank those Wrexham fans who helped me out enough to be honest, I would never have made it home without them. I do not know the name of the man who helped, but I hope someday I can repay him properly.

"I have never been so glad to see Wrexham General as I was that Monday morning."

Colin says he does not know the name of the bus company which took him down to Wembley that day, only that they were 'Lancashire-based'.
