A DISABLED Flintshire woman says she feels ‘let down’ by the council having lived in a damp and mouldy house for three years.

Melanie Edwards, 40, was relocated to a property in Gwaenysgor but has spoken of how she has been faced with shocking living conditions despite being told it was ready for her.

Melanie said: “The house doesn’t have damp course. We get slugs in our bedroom and the whole side of my house is damp.

"For three years I’ve tried to get this sorted and here I am in a wheelchair living in a damp house for three years with black mould up the walls.”

“I’m having to bleach wash my walls most weeks to keep the black mould at bay.”

Melanie has also expressed how she struggles to keep warm.

“I have to wear a big winter dressing gown, I come in and put more layers on because the heating doesn’t heat the house due to it being so damp.”

She added: “I just want to get my home warm and dry. My children are that embarrassed, they won’t have their mate’s round.”

“I feel very let down. The council is to blame for not doing the damp course and not rectifying the repairs when first reported as I was told it was condensation, until someone came out with a damp meter, and it read 69% damp.”

"It is not a straightforward case of damp. The issue is condensation and we have engaged a contractor to begin the work to resolve this issue.

"We can assure the lady that we are working as hard as we can to get the necessary work done as soon as possible.”
