A TEENAGER from North Wales got to meet some of the Wales football stars after they qualified for their country's first World Cup in 64 years.

A deflected Gareth Bale free-kick was enough to see Wales beat Ukraine 1-0 in Cardiff on Sunday, June 5, and qualify for Qatar 2022.

Jake Davies, 19, from Llangollen got to meet some of his heroes on that famous night.

Jake, who has cerebral palsy, was joined by mum Christine and dad Robert.

And one of the players in particular - Spurs defender Joe Rodon - left the family with a memorable moment.

Jake's dad Robert said: "It was absolutely amazing. Joe Rodon took my phone off me and put his number into my phone - he said 'we will get Jake to Qatar', bless him.

"One of my best mates' daughter goes out with Harry Wilson and between him and Harry's mum, Nicola, they got us into the private party after the match."

Jake and his family also got to meet Wales' record goalscorer Gareth Bale, manager Rob Page and the likes of Harry Wilson and Neco Williams who hail from Corwen and Cefn Mawr respectively.

Robert added: "It was amazing, all the players were fantastic with Jake. The result was amazing too - especially after the disappointment of Wrexham's two losses lately.

"I think it has only just sunk in, I am so chuffed for all the lads that have followed Wales for years, from when they were not as good.

"Jake was also excited about seeing Ian Evans there - my mate from Corwen who Jake loves. We are both posties in that area.

"He was obviously very excited to meet Gareth Bale too and Harry Wilson as Jake knows him."
