A SALTNEY woman died after choking on food while having a meal with her daughter, an inquest concluded.

The inquest opening into the death of Ann Clark, 67, was held in September 2021 before being adjourned in order for further investigations to be carried out.

At County Hall in Ruthin on Tuesday, June 7 an inquest was held into 48-year-old Ms Clark's death.

The inquest told how retired phone operator Ann Clark was having a meal at her home in Victoria Road on August 29, 2021.

When she got up to start making her way to the kitchen, she began to choke.

Ms Clark continued to struggle for breath and daughter Jenna attempted to 'dislodge' the piece of food, the coroner's court was told.

Paramedics received a call at 6.56pm and, upon arrival at the home, administered chest compressions for nearly an hour, before pronouncing Ms Clarke dead at 7.57pm.

A post-mortem examination by pathologist Dr Mark Atkinson concluded that the circumstances of her death were 'related to a choking episode'.

Food was found 'clearly within the airway' and Dr Atkinson's report concluded that there could be 'no other explanation for the sudden death' other than choking.

Kate Sutherland, assistant coroner for North Wales East and Central concluded that Ms Clark's death was accidental, adding that the incident 'was wholly unexpected and wholly unintended'.
