A LOCAL cricket club is pulling out all the stops in its efforts to raise funds for its new pavilion.

Six years ago Hawarden Park Cricket Club left its former base on the grounds of Hawarden Castle - its home for 140 years - to move to a new ground down the road on Moor Lane.

The club is going from strength to strength - home to five junior teams, the only woman’s hardball team in North Wales and four senior teams.

It also attracts well over 100 children for its All Stars and Dynamos sessions on Friday evenings.

The Leader:

Its new ground boasts one of the biggest playing areas in the country - with the new pavilion set to be the crowning jewel.

The club is looking to raise the funds they need to build it - after getting planning permission for it last year

To help do so, they are hosting two major fundraising events.

The first is its 'Big Challenge' next month - which will see people walk or run around the boundary.

It is a continuous event between 6pm on Friday, June 17 and 6pm on Sunday, June 19.

Here's how you can get involved:

1) Pick up a sponsorship form from the club, or message them via their Facebook page for an electronic copy.

2) Contact the club with your preferred hour/s time slots via claireroose@yahoo.co.uk and rgnpenney@aol.com, or message them via the Facebook page.

The club said: "We would like to prioritise giving the daytime and early evening slots to our junior members and supporters, please bear this in mind when giving us your preferences.

"Multiple people (family groups) can sign up to the sign hour/s slot.

"Share with all your friends and family and please feel free to share our social posts."

The club said it would greatly help the fundraising if the participants could request sponsors complete their donations via their local giving appeal, with the request that they gift aid these donations which increases the value of the donation by 25 per cent. Please reference all donations with: TBC/ name of participant they are sponsoring / their message

And on Saturday, July 9, the club will hold an evening with Liverpool FC and England legend, John Barnes, in aid of the pavilion appeal.

The evening with the former wing-wizard will take place at Ewloe Social Club, starting at 7pm.

John will be talking about his experiences on and off the pitch, with an opportunity for audience question and answers.

Tickets are priced at £30 and be bought by contacting Craig Wilson on 07743205866, or via emailing craigwilson2019@outlook.com
