BURGLARS who left a trail of destruction and ruined treasured family memories have been jailed.

Kevin Davies, of Isaac Way in Rhosymedre, appeared at Mold Crown Court for sentence on Friday, alongside Tyler Williams, of Abbots Way in Bangor on Dee.

Williams, aged 23, had previously been convicted of three counts of burglary, and 27-year-old Davies had been convicted of one - all of the offences taking place in August 2020.

Ryan Rothwell, prosecuting, told the court that the first burglary - which took place in Malpas - involved Williams.

The family who lived at the property were away and received an alert that a security camera had been activated.

A neighbour notified them their house had been entered and when they returned they found a "devastating scene of destruction."

It took the couple living at the house - one a Cheshire Constabulary Police officer and the other working at HMP Berwyn in Wrexham - several days to clean up the mess left.

It involved cleaning liquid and beer being sprayed all over the property, bedrooms being ransacked, windows smashed, a child's paddling pool slashed, bags and boxes emptied, clothes strewn about and more.

Jewellery was also taken in the burglary.

The court heard Williams learned who the residents were - as a police uniform and a prison identity card were found laid out after the burglary.

Mr Rothwell said the incident caused substantial emotional and physical damage.

The second burglary, involving Williams again, took place in Nercwys in Flintshire.

In this case again, the occupant was away and returned to find a significant mess.

Wine had been thrown on the walls, a safe screwed to a wall had been taken, and damage had been caused.

In a victim impact statement, the resident said the home was built by his parents and was a place of "irreplaceable" sentimental value where "many happy memories were made."

The homeowner said the incident led to the breakdown of his relationship with his partner of more than 10 years, as she felt unsafe in the property.

The third burglary involved both defendants and took place in Eryrys.

Once again, this took place while the residents were not at home and a vigilant neighbour called the police.

The property had been "ransacked" and there were a number of empty Jewellery boxes found.

But in this case, a pillow case containing a substantial amount of the stolen property was found in the garden.

Philip Tully, defending Williams, said: "He accepts the only appropriate sentence is immediate custody.

"Thankfully the premises were unoccupied at the time of these offences.

"He is genuinely remorseful for these offences and wishes to extend his apologies to all of the victims.

"Since the offence he has turned his life around. He's completed an apprenticeship, he's in full time employment and he has a child.

"He stands to lose a great deal due to his actions."

James Coutts, defending Davies, said: "He's matured, he's settled and he's now a different person than he was at the time.

"He's become a father for the first time and he has kept out of trouble.

"The court can have some confidence that he is not going to be back in this situation."

Judge Timothy Petts jailed Williams for four years and eight months.

He handed a custodial sentence of two years and two months to Davies.
