There will be ‘Bigger and better things’ for Wrexham Lager after a prestigious award win which has dubbed their Export Lager as the “best beer from the UK”.

Wrexham Lager director, Mark Roberts with head brewer, Connor Povey expressed what the win meant for the brewery at the Frankfurt International Trophy.

The brewery was one of over 30 from the UK to enter the competition, with only Wrexham Lager walking away with an award.

Over 50 different countries were also entered into the competition.

To win the award, the beers were blind-tested by the judges at the historic hall of the famous Gesellschaftshaus Palmengarten in Frankfurt, meaning that the beers were judged by taste alone.

The beer has been brewed for around 140 years and was even enjoyed aboard the SS Titanic. It has seen a revival after the brewery closed in 2002 and is going from strength to strength.

Connor said: “So far this year we have won silver at Lyon International Trophy. Any award is a good award. We have also won recently a gold in the International Women’s trophy, which is also held in Germany and that’s another good one for us. We have been entered into many many more and we should be expected the results of those in the coming months.”
