But, it looks as though supporters are likely to encounter disruptions on the M6 along the way down to London.

National Highways has confirmed that they will be demolishing the old north bridge over the weekend (May 20 to 23) which will lead to road closures along both sides of the M6.

A statement from them read: "We’re closing the M6 motorway in both directions between junction 10 exit and entry slip roads from 8pm Friday May 20 to 6am Monday May 23.

"We’re also closing the M6 junction 9 northbound entry slip road to reduce congestion on the approach to the closure.

"We’ll divert the M6 traffic up and over the junction during the closure. We’re expecting severe delays during the closure, and we’re asking drivers to avoid using the M6 if possible.

"Local roads will be significantly busier, so please avoid the area if possible. If you’re making a local journey, please consider using public transport if possible, or walking or cycling for shorter trips.

"Please plan ahead and allow extra time for your journey."
