THE WORK of some of Wrexham's finest 'community champions' has been recognised by a local football club.

Bellevue FC, who play in the North East Wales Championship Division, held their annual presentation night on Thursday, May 12.

And, as well as rewarding their own players with prizes on the night, the club also decided to highlight the work of four people from the community.

Bellevue FC coach Delwyn Derrick is a huge inspiration to many having won several awards for his efforts to promote inclusion in football.

As well as that, the 34-year-old has overcome sepsis and had a tumour removed during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Community spirit is at the heart of everything Bellevue and Delwyn do and that was no different on presentation night as they gave thanks to some true Wrexham-based heroes.

Following the event, Delwyn, who is known as 'Sheep', said: "As a club with community at our heart, it was a pleasure for us to recognise, in whatever small way we could, some of the other amazing community champions in the area."

"Each one of our community award winners also announced award winners for our club, with Kerry Evans and Amjid Hussain announcing Morgan Thomas and Laura Jones as the most improved players, and Krishnapriya Ramamoorthy and Dave Smith announcing Olivia Kassab and David Holland as the players player of the season winners.

"As a club, we have been honoured and privileged to have won a lot of awards for what we do in the community and our justification for choosing our four community award winners, is that none of them wanted the award.

"Each one of them felt like they were only doing what was right and normal to them and how they didn't feel special or deserving of recognition, for us as a whole club, this is exactly why they deserved our thanks."
