Wrexham legend Mickey Thomas has showered praise on Reds' boss Phil Parkinson as his first season in the hotseat comes to an end. 

The former Bolton, Bradford and Sunderland boss has made an impressive start to life at the Racecourse Ground, leading his side to an FA Trophy Final and being in with a chance of the title going into the final week. 

While his tenure didn't get quite get off to the flying start most Wrexham fans hoped it would do, since the turn of the year the Red Dragons have been on fire and have hauled themselves back into a title fight after being 11 points behind. 

Thomas, famed for his stunning free-kick that knocked Arsenal out of the FA Cup in 1992, made almost 300 appearances in two spells at The Racecourse and was a member of the famous 1977/78 promotion-winning side.

The Wales and Wrexham great labelled 'Super Phil Parky', as he is referred to by the Reds faithful, as the best signing the club has made under the ownership of Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds. 

"The club have brought investments in really well since the takeover," he said. 

"The best bit of business for me has been the manager. He has been brilliant since he came in, he's had to work with it all, all the players and staff. 

"He's had to be patient, but that patience is paying off now. 

"The club are in the Trophy final, but it is getting back into the football league that everyone wants."

Mickey was also full of praise for the deadly duo Wrexham have up top in Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer.

In the 15 home games the pair have played in together, at least one of them has scored in 14 of them. 

They have both scored in seven of the 15 games. 

Mickey added: "Mullin is prolific, Palmer is as well. But Mullin is a big big player for us, when he scores, we usually win. 

"I always back him when he's got a chance. He's a very clever footballer and with a player like that on your team, you've always got a chance of winning."
