THE FINAL two election results in Flintshire have been declared this morning.

Third and second recounts of the Connah's Quay South and Buckley Bistre West wards meant their results weren't declared until Saturday morning.

In Connah's Quay South, Welsh Labour lost two seats it had previously held.

Independent candidates Bill Crease and Antony Stephen Wren were elected, with the latter defeating Labour's Ian Dunbar by just three votes following a third recount.

The other result declared on Saturday morning was the Buckley Bistre West ward, which Labour made a gain in - fighting off stiff competition from Independent David Ellis to secure two seats.

It means the final result has seen 31 Labour candidates (including one Welsh Labour and Co-Operative party member) elected to the council, 30 independents, four Liberal Democrats and two Conservatives.

The Leader:

Welsh Labour went into the election with the majority 34 councillors, but key losses in Connah’s Quay and Queensferry has left them facing having to form a coalition – falling short of the 34 they needed to form a majority.

The significant gains were made by Independent councillors, who took seats in Connah’s Quay Golftyn, South Wepre and Central wards, as well as the Queensferry seat to elect eight new members.

Labour clung on to their Holywell Central seat by the skin of their teeth - with Ted Palmer re-elected by the difference of one vote. He won 224, and Daniel Thomas (Independent) 223.
