A WREXHAM man has admitted unlawfully killing his grandmother.

Kyle David Edward Ellis, of New Hall Road, appeared at Mold Crown Court on Thursday.

The 26-year-old denied the murder of Susan Hannaby on February 11, 2021, at New Hall Road - however he entered a plea of guilty to an alternative count of manslaughter, admitting he unlawfully killed her.

Michael Jones, prosecuting, said the plea was accepted by the Crown Prosecution Service.

The court heard "extensive" psychiatric reviews had been carried out on the defendant throughout 2021.

Mr Jones said at the time of the offence the defendant was "profoundly mentally unwell" and had paranoid schizophrenia.

Doctors who had examined him for the prosecution and the defence were "at one," the conclusion being that he fulfilled the criteria for manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility.

Ellis will be sentenced next month.
