A WREXHAM voluntary organisation has had a defibrillator installed at its premises in memory of its former chairman.

The life-saving medical apparatus has been installed at the entrance to Tŷ Avow on Egerton Street - the home of the Association of Voluntary Organisations in Wrexham (AVOW).

It has been put in place in memory of the organisation's former chairman, John Leece-Jones, who died suddenly last summer.

John was doing one of the things he liked best, volunteering for AVOW in a meeting on June 1, 2021, when he sadly died, aged 72.

The Leader: John Leece-Jones. John Leece-Jones.

The organisation said: "John was a tremendous asset to AVOW and is greatly missed by all staff, volunteers and Trustees who knew him in his various roles.

"His knowledge of Wrexham and the voluntary sector were first-rate, and his devotion to public service was exemplary. He is fondly remembered for his invaluable contributions to Wrexham and the wider community."

The defibrillator was installed by Welsh Ambulance PADS Support Officer, Tomos Hughes, BEM – with support from Awyr Las Charity, Cadwch Curiadau, BHF Cymru and Save a Life Cymru.

AVOW hopes that this defibrillator will provide the emergency treatment needed to save lives and prevent any further tragedy, should the need ever arise.
