THIS IS the moment a much-loved ice cream man had hard-working volunteers in Wrexham grinning from ear to ear.

The self-proclaimed “King of Desserts”, Mr Tee, aka Tee Smith, is known for drawing large crowds as he tours the UK selling ice cream trays from his colourful van.

Real name Imran Ashiq, he has amassed more than 250,000 followers on Facebook by now.

Mr Tee is originally from Bolton but has lived in Wrexham for the last 16 years.

On Saturday (March 5), he popped by the Wrexham Industrial Estate to surprise volunteers there by giving away over 100 free ice creams.

They have been working hard sorting out the donations made to the AVOW ahead of being sent to those who need them most in Ukraine.

Communities in Wrexham and Flintshire have been donating countless amounts of items to help those affected by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Tee Smith said it 'felt absolutely wonderful' to see the smiles he put on volunteers faces with his ice cream.

He added: "It was totally heartwarming and surreal. There’s no better feeling than than seeing genuine happiness for me, I relish off getting involved with as much charitable work as I possibly can.

"To me, money takes a lesser place than people’s happiness. I must have gave away at least 100 ice creams.

"I had a message from a friend asking if I knew of what was happening at the Wrexham industrial estate and of all the volunteers there offering their time and efforts in packing all the locally collected donations.

"I immediately decided that it was the only right thing for me to do to pay a visit to keep their spirits up seeing as we had such a glorious sunny morning."

Tee travels all over the country with his ice cream van, but adds that Wrexham will always have a special place in his heart.

He said: "I moved here from Bolton 16 years ago and it was the best move I have ever made. The locals here really welcomed me with open arms and supported me wholly in all my various business ventures.

"I do travel all over the Uk in my van and it’s an amazing career choice I made, I’ve been in this field now for 7 years and it was a great decision for me and my family to get in to this trade.

"My views on life are simple, there is no discrimination of any others in any way shape or form and I feel I belong to a huge family where we are all equal.

"I will always do my best and in my power for others and treat everyone with the respect and values I would like to be treated with myself, we are all in this together."

Talking about the day, an AVOW spokesperson said: "Wrexham community is amazing! Between 130-150 volunteers at the depot today helping out - thank you to each and every one of you - and Mr Tee turned up with ice creams!

"There is still lots to sort through so if you can please please go to F Lloyd (PENLEY), Bridge Road South, Wrexham Industrial Estate, LL13 9SQ

"Volunteers are very much needed between 9-5 on Sunday but please do not bring any donations as they simply can’t accept any more.

"Please use the entrance near the roundabout and not the top one as it is still operational and very busy. Thank you so much you amazing people!"
