THE FLINTSHIRE community has been praised for its "phenomenal effort" for supporting the humanitarian aid campaign to the Ukraine. 

Over the last week, the people of Flintshire have answered the call for support for those affected by the war in the Ukraine - which has seen more than a million refugees flee from.

Seven vans-full of donations have been sent from Connah's Quay alone to depots in Wrexham, Chester and Warrington.

Connah's Quay councillor, Bernie Attridge, said: "When myself and Debbie Owen agreed we needed to help in this crisis we never ever thought it would end up how it did.

"I am humbled by the magnificent response, which on occasions over this week that has brought me to tears. I can't thank the great people of Rlintshire for the donations and the volunteers to make this happen enough."

Buckley county councillor, Carol Ellis, said: "Thank you to all who donated. The volunteers who have worked hard today and all week. It's been a pleasure to work with such good people.

"Thank you to the local businesses for support, and the Buckley Residents Facebook Group who have been so helpful."
