WREXHAM AFC has responded to criticism from supporters who have been unable to renew their usual seats for next season.

Existing season ticket holders have an exclusive priority window open to them so that they can renew their seat for the 2022/23 season.

That window is open until 5pm on Wednesday, April 13.

But, over 200 supporters have been told by the club that they will have to move to a different part of the Racecourse ground next season.

The club's increased popularity since the takeover by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney last year has led to a higher demand for seats at the ground.

But the club has stated that it is 'media, hospitality and broadcasting requirements' which have led to many long-standing followers of the club having to move to other seats.

Several Wrexham AFC fans have taken to social media to voice their frustration over the announcement.

One of those affected by the news is Andrew Spilsted from Gwersyllt, who has been going to watch Wrexham play since 1986.

For the last 10 years or so, he has had a seat in the Macron Stand (aka Mold Road Stand). But, next season that looks set to change.

He said: "I'm appalled by what's happened at the football club. I've been supporting Wrexham since 1986 and it's absolutely appalling what they've done to some of the most loyal fans.

"I've supported this club through thick and thin, donated money to it and I've not had so much as a sorry from them.

PIC: Over 200 Wrexham AFC fans are facing a switch of seats next season.

"I receievd a text on Tuesday morning (March 1) and was in Wrexham at the time so rushed to the club shop to ask what was going on. I told them that I thought their approach to all of this was disgusting but again had no apology.

"It's disappointing that there's been no commuication or consultation at all with fans. We had the 1864 Suite (where fans could meet players after a match) taken away from us last year and didn't kick up a stink as we thought we were heading in the right direction.

"But we can't accept this. I get the feeling that the fans won't let this one lie."

Wrexham AFC says it has contacted all season ticket holders and will work with those fans affected in order to resolve any issues.

A spokesperson for the club said: "Wrexham AFC recently announced our season-ticket renewal process for the 2022/23 season, with the exclusive renewal period for existing season-ticket holders now open until April 13.

"As communicated, there are a small number of seats previously available for season-tickets that will not be available for the 2022/23 season.

"These seats are no longer available for season-tickets for a number of reasons, namely media and broadcasting requirements, corporate hospitality, segregation or that they are in areas that were inadvertently made available last season.

"The club contacted each of the 204 affected supporters individually, and we are currently working with all of those affected to find alternative seats. We will contact them again at the end of the renewal period if we aren’t able to find a suitable alternative at this time.

"We understand supporters’ frustrations at having to move, sometimes from seats they’ve held for a number of seasons, and will be doing our utmost to ensure appropriate alternative seating is found.

"The Wrexham AFC ticket office has already confirmed that those who sit together in family or friend groups, will be able to move together at the appropriate time."

The renewal price has been frozen for the 2022/23 season for all current season-ticket holders that renew within the priority window, regardless of what league the club will play in.

Wrexham are currently pushing for promotion from the National League and back into the English Football League after a 14-year absence.

Phil Parkinson's side are currently 3rd in the table after their 2-0 victory over King's Lynn Town on Tuesday night.
