A TOWPATH along Llangollen Canal has been closed off due to a fallen tree.

Several parts of North Wales are being affected by Storm Franklin, with floods and high speed winds arriving along with it.

The Canal and River Trust, which looks after the canal in Llangollen, has confirmed that its towpath at the Wrexham Road Bridge will be closed until at least Tuesday, February 22.

A statement from them read: "Please be advised the towpath and navigation is closed at Bridge 6, Wrexham Road Bridge on the Llangollen Canal due to a windblown tree.

"Contractors have been informed and we anticipate they will be on site tomorrow, to remove the obstruction. An update will be provided Tuesday 22 February."

The Pontcysyllte Aqueduct at Llangollen has just recently undergone winter maintenance.

Visitors were urged to steer clear while work was carried out there with a locked high gate in place across the pathway to deny access.
