A HALF Marathon event set for Wrexham this weekend has been called off due to fears over the effects Storm Eunice will have on the region.

The Village Bakery Wrexham Half Marathon returned in September of last year, after a two year break, and it was back bigger and better.

That event attracted dozens of runners to the starting line.

But, the event scheduled to take place on Sunday, February 19, has been called off, organiser Run Cheshire have confirmed.

The decision comes as Storm Eunice arrives in North Wales, bring winds as strong as 80mph along with it.
A forecast of high speed winds and heavy rainfall is being predicted for Sunday by the Met Office.

The race is now being re-scheduled for either September of this year or 2023.

A statement from Run Cheshire read: "After serious consideration and after speaking to our contractors we have taken the decision to cancel Sunday's race.

"All entrants will receive an email later today which will include moving to the new date of Sunday, September 4 2022 or the 2023 date (Sunday February 12).

"This decision has not been taken lightly but we wanted to make a call early enough so that you can make other plans."
