MOTORISTS using the A483 Dee Viaduct face a 14-mile diversion.

The bridge will be closed on Friday morning as a precautionary measure as Storms Dudley and Eunice batter the region.

It means motorists will be diverted 14 miles to Llangollen via the A5, before merging onto Llangollen Road through Trevor and Acrefair and eventually rejoining the A483 at Junction 1 (Ruabon interchange).

On Thursday, one lane on the viaduct will be closed southbound from Junction 1 - in preperation for a precautionary full closure in both directions on Friday between 6am and 12pm.

Traffic Wales said: "The traffic management needs to be set out on Thursday evening while winds are lower.

"A full closure is required due to wind speeds as a precautionary measure.

"Please note that due to the landslip on B5605 Newbridge the diversion route has been extended."

A sign of things to come?
