POLICE are warning that they will seize E-scooters ridden in the Wrexham area after seeing an increase in the use of them since the Christmas period.

It is not currently possible to get appropriate insurance for privately owned e-scooters, meaning it is illegal to use them on a road or public spaces in North Wales.

E-scooters are classed as a motor vehicle and must comply with various pieces of Road Traffic Legislation, including:

  • Driving with a licence
  • Driving with insurance
  • Need valid vehicle tax

A spokesperson for North Wales Police said: "Following the Christmas period we have seen an increase in the use of E-scooters in the areas of Cefn Mawr, Acrefair and Ruabon.

"We appreciate many people had them as Christmas presents and may not be aware of the laws, but if anyone is seen using an e-scooter Police have the power to seize it and there will be a cost to get it back from the recovery company."
