ONE of Wrexham AFC's Hollywood owners has welcomed new signing Ollie Palmer to the club.

Striker Palmer dropped two divisions to sign for Wrexham - stating an intent to help get his new club earn promotion.

And, as if scripted by Hollywood, Palmer bagged the only goal on his debut to clinch a 1-0 victory over Grimsby.

It took the striker just 34 minutes to repay the warm welcome supporters have given him.

Before last night's match Rob McElhenney, who completed the takeover of the club with Hollywood superstar Ryan Reynolds almost a year ago, welcomed the new signing.

Rob tweeted: "Welcome to Wrexham Ollie."

30-year-old Palmer signed from League One AFC Wimbledon for a Wrexham AFC club-record fee this week.

The three-and-a-half-year deal will keep him at The Racecourse until June 2025, with the frontman saying he wants to spent the majority of that time back in the Football League with the Reds.

Wrexham fans on the whole have been delighted that the goalscorer has joined the club.

One tweeted: "BOOM Baby yeah!"

Another posted: "Get in there Ollie lad."

After Tuesday's win, one fan tweeted: "Ollie Palmer is Wrexham’s Kieffer Moore. I’m so excited to see him head in all Tozer’s long throws without having to jump. COYR."

Another said: "In 35+ years of supporting @Wrexham_AFC that is one of the best atmospheres I’ve been in and around. Buzzin."

But the reception wasn't completely positive, with one Twitter user posting: "What a waste of money."

Time will tell whether the signing was value for money but, with another three points in the bag and Wrexham sitting sixth in the table, things are looking promising.
