A MAN was arrested after police were called to a "disturbance" near a Wrexham pub.

Shortly after 4pm on Sunday (January 16), officers were called to reports of two males involved in an "ongoing disturbance" close to the Wheatsheaf Pub on Mold Road in Gwersyllt.

Upon arrival, officers found a man in possession of a hammer and a metal baseball bat.

This man was subsequently arrested and later charged on suspicion of being in possession of an offensive weapon and criminal damage to property, North Wales Police said.

Eye-witnesses recall seeing a large police presence, as well as an ambulance, near to the pub on Sunday afternoon. Police have not said if any injuries resulted from the incident.
