THIS is the moment a would-be thief was spooked by a security light at a home in Wrexham. 

North Wales Police has released CCTV footage of the incident to help raise awareness of burglaries and what to do to help prevent them. 

The incident occurred at property a home on Sandringham Road, the occupants of which having noted an activation of a rear CCTV camera. 

On inspection, a man was seen approaching the rear of the property; his presence activated the rear flood light which in turn caused him to run off in the direction of Haytor road.

Inspector Luke Hughes, of North Wales Police's Wrexham Town team, said: "Incidents like this are clearly distressing, on this occasion no entry was gained to the property but it clear his intention was no good.

"It serves to remind people to be vigilant and secure their properties to prevent opportunistic offenders such as this, the security light and camera proving their worth.

"Please be vigilant, report suspicious activity and stay safe."
