But for all these mums, and dads, it really was the start of something new and very special.

We have taken a dip into the Leader archives to look at some of the New Year's babies born across the region over the years.

Some of these babies are even now parents and grandparents themselves.

It is definitely an amazing and adorable way to start the year.
