Mold Golf Club juniors section has had a successful year after it was awarded for its commitment to junior golf.

Mold is well known for its work with juniors and this year has seen the section grow to 66 junior players of all ages – 54 boys and 12 girls.

More than 50 juniors have received weekly coaching via the Club's Junior Academy and 16 other young people have also taken part in the New2Golf programme, which is an initiative to encourage youngsters into the game.

The Club has received the Junior Golf Certificate Higher Award for the second time in recognition of its commitment to junior golf, an award that is presented to the top performing clubs by Wales Golf.

Throughout the year, 28 junior competitions have been held with an average participation of 32 and over 40 on occasion.

Ten Mold Golf Club juniors currently have a single figure handicap with Junior Captain Annabel Collis playing off scratch, an achievement reached on her 16th birthday. Annabel also represented Wales this year.

Junior Managers John Roberts and Marie Moore are very proud of all junior and intermediate members. John said: "We have had a lot of success among our ranks again this year at club, county, regional and national level and our congratulations go to all boys and girls who have done well. Playing isn't just about winning though, it's about taking part and enjoying the game so it's fantastic to have so many junior members of all ages and abilities.

Marie added: "Every year we have lots going on for juniors and it's fantastic seeing them enjoying it and doing well, while making friends and enjoying the social side too. We were pleased to welcome the Ping Junior Tour to Mold again this year and it was also a great pleasure to receive the Women in Golf Charter from the R&A in the summer which recognised our work with women and girls."

A presentation night was held at the Club, attended by special guest Tony Godden, Secretary of the Union of Flintshire Golf Clubs. He said: "I thought the evening was very enlightening and shows what can be done for junior golfers and is what I think all good golf clubs should aspire to. As a county we support and promote junior golf and will be using Mold Golf Club as a 'model' of what can be achieved."
