A SQUIRREL has been terrorising residents in a Flintshire community.

The grey squirrel has been spotted in a number of gardens in Buckley and has attacked several people, according to members of the Buckey residents group on Facebook.

Sheree Davidson. 42, posted a photo of her hand after she was bitten on Thursday morning.

She told the Leader that she would never wish harm on any animal but she feared this one was a danger.

She said: "This squirrel is not very nice at all, it's a nutty squirrel. He's a bit of a psycho, he's had five or six of my neighbours.

"He had me when collecting my recycling bags. He jumped out from behind my green bin, so whether he was trying to get food and thought I was going to take it away.

"Lets just say it had me good and proper, little s***. I've got teeth marks on the top and bottom of my finger. It proper latched on and I had to shake it off. He's taken the top layer off my knuckle. His teeth are like pins.

"If my finger doesn't stop bleeding tomorrow I've got to go for a tetanus."

She added: "I've got a five-year-old myself, and she usually plays out back with her friends. But I've had to say 'sorry, babe, you can't go out until something has happened with it'.

"It's gone wild."

Neighbours have described it as being a fairly young squirrel with three distinctive bald patches on its tail.

The discussion started when resident Nicola warned her neighbours in a post on Boxing Day.

She said: "Warning. Vicious squirrel that attacks. Has bitten me, and attacked my friend Kev when he came to my house.

She said it has attacked other people as well as her two Bengal cats "who fear nothing".

Nicola added: "Not fun. Dare not go out of my house, as it's lurking..."

Her stories were soon corroborated as other members of the group posted their accounts of being attacked by the bushy-tailed hooligan.

Corine posted: "I can't clean my bunnies out unless the dog is loose cos he jumps on my back."

She added: "There's going to be little ones injured in the summer. It has no fear and attacks randomly. I'm very careful when I see it and always make sure I have monkey nuts in my pocket to give him quick cos he has bit me before.

"I wasn't aware how many people have actually been bitten by it tbf thought it was just me."

Sylvia posted: "A squirrel bit my friend down Farm Road yesterday.

Melanie replied: "I live Farm Road and we've had two squirrel attacks."

Nicola posted: "I went out to my dustbin in the garden when karate bitey squirrel ran at me, for the second time, it bit me last time. It's attacked half the street, it's not just me.

"I love animals, would never hurt one, but this one is probably poorly to behave in such an aggressive way."

Scott posted: "I was just having a fag by my back door and it jumped on me, thought it wanted feeding but it bit me before I even had a chance."

The British Pest Control Association says that grey squirrels (sciurus carolinensis) are invasive pests, not native to the UK.

They were first introduced to the UK from North America in the 1870’s, as ornamental additions to high-class estates and country homes.

Introductions continued until the 1930’s, when the damage they can cause was finally acknowledged and it became illegal to release grey squirrels into the wild.

The Wildlife Trusts estimates there are around 140,000 native red squirrels left in the UK, compared to 2.5 million grey squirrels.

Aggressive squirrels are more common in America where The Humane Society of the United States has released guidance for residents experiencing aggressive squirrels.

Dubbed a "serial squirrel" there have been reports of squirrel that had jumped on and bitten several residents in New York.
